What was it about the accounting industry that drew your interest?
I have always liked working with numbers. I really wanted to be a teacher, but there seemed to be an abundance of teachers when I was entering college. During high school, I interviewed an accountant and decided it was a good alternative to teaching. And I still get to do some teaching as I explain returns to and assist both clients and staff.

If you hadn’t become a CPA, what job would you have chosen and why?
I love children and my second grade teacher always said “Second grade was the best,” so I would be back in second grade teaching. I enjoy helping others and working with children.

What wisdom would you offer to aspiring accountants?
If your goal is to help people and continue learning, this is one job where you can accomplish that goal. There are many opportunities to continue learning by assisting clients with accounting and tax issues.

How do you want to be remembered?
As someone who cares about her clients, does her best to meet client expectations, and is willing to help a client understand tax law.

Who is your hero and why?
My parents are my heroes for staying together through the good times and the bad, creating memories for their four children, and supporting each other for nearly 60 years.

What was your first job?
My very first job was delivering newspapers while still in middle school. My first job after college–my last summer of fun–was as a playground supervisor.

What lesson from mom or dad do you still live by today?
It is better to give than to receive.

What book are you currently reading?
I am currently reading Book 11 of the Left Behind series.
