Skills & Experience for ALL Accounting and Tax Positions:

  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills;
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills with emphasis on the ability to articulate complex accounting, tax and financial information to clients;
  • Proficiency in use of computers and computer accounting / tax software programs;
  • CPA or in the process of obtaining certification;
  • Comfortable working in a team environment with changing priorities and deadlines;
  • Intermediate Word, Adobe and Excel skills;
  • Self-motivated and detail oriented.

ACCOUNTING / AUDITING DEPARTMENTpositions in our A&A department generally require previous public accounting experience (other than entry level) and any experience with CCH ProSystem fx programs and QuickBooks is a huge plus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist clients in performance of accounts receivable and payable functions
  • Reconcile bank accounts; prepare journal entries and cash disbursement records for entry in to appropriate systems
  • Analyze and summarize client information to prepare financial reports
  • Prepare sales and use tax returns
  • Perform intermediate to advanced payroll processing and 1099 preparation; work regularly with several payroll companies to assist clients in meeting reporting and record keeping requirements
  • Prepare employer shared responsibility (ESR) forms 1095 / 1094
  • Interact with client staff to gain information, documents and data necessary to complete assigned tasks
  • Educate and train clients in proper accounting techniques
  • Assist clients with in-house accounting functions at clients’ offices
  • Communicate client issues to supervisor or partner on the job
  • Communicate with clients and clients’ contacts including payroll companies, banks and vendors
  • Assist and orient other firm staff members as needed in job preparation
  • Develop individualized systems & relationships with clients based upon clients’ needs
  • Must be able to travel to local clients as needed

Required Education and Experience

  • Bookkeeping Certification or Associates degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant field preferred
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel and Word
  • Experience utilizing industry standard accounting software; QuickBooks and Quicken experience required
  • Three (3) or more years of experience performing general accounting transactions and functions required
  • Basic to Intermediate knowledge of fundamental accounting and finance principles
