What Sets Us Apart
We care. Pure and simple.
‘Above and beyond’ dedication to client service is our highest priority. Clients tell us they appreciate our accessibility and committed service. We believe it’s essential that you receive our close personal attention with prompt answers and thoughtful ideas.
No situation is too tough or too routine. Every challenge is viewed with a fresh eye and resolved with a creative solution.
By placing our service standards front and center in the way we conduct business, you can expect to receive extraordinary quality service while we help you improve your business or personal financials.
Exceeding Geographic Boundaries
We are a true Chicagoland firm serving mostly Chicago-area businesses. But today even a hometown business can have ‘worldly’ needs.
When faced with out-of-state or foreign tax, accounting, or legal issues, we are just a phone call away. Many of our clients operate in multiple states and are based outside of Illinois. And many of our business and personal clients tap into our ability to provide accounting expertise to virtually any global location.
In fact, as a member of CPA Associates International, Inc., an association of approximately 150 independent accounting firms all over the world, we access credible sister firms almost anywhere on your behalf.
Similarly, when companies outside our region are looking to expand or do business in Illinois, we are the CPA Associates International connection in Chicago and elsewhere in the state. This affiliation also connects us to firms with industry expertise in areas outside our normal focus. And it provides us with internal management and training. It’s truly a collaboration of the sharpest minds in the accounting profession.
• Private Company Practice Section (PCPS) – Exclusive to firms working with privately-held companies, PCPS provides practical guidance and quick access to critical information on issues affecting their quality, professionalism, and profitability.
• Government Audit Quality Center (GAQC) – Assists member firms in promoting the importance of quality governmental audits and the value of such audits to purchasers of governmental audit services. It provides forums, materials and consultation to help member firms improve their governmental audit practices.
• Employee Benefit Plan Audit Quality Center (EBPAQC) – Providing enrolled firms to help them meet the challenges of performing quality audits in this unique and complex practice area through forums, materials and seminars. It also provides materials to assist purchasers of EBP services to understand the many nuances and responsibilities required as a sponsor of EBP plans.
Over the Years
It was 1928 when Nathan C. Kessler began his public accounting practice. Since then, the strength and reputation of the firm has steadily grown.
Today, KOS comprises nearly 50 accomplished employees. Our team includes seven active principals, four semi-retired principals, approximately twelve directors/managers, and more than 25 professional staff people. Several of our professionals have law degrees in addition to CPA certificates.
With my hectic schedule working on radio, TV, and in print I needed an accounting firm that could track expenses, manage my business, and someone I could trust to always be on top of things. KOS has exceeded all of my expectations. They are truly my best asset in my business world!

Over time, we’ve helped clients achieve notable advancement in a number of industries. These days, our clients rely on us for advice on protecting and growing their assets, making their businesses stronger, and taking some of the worry out of making financial decisions.
Although the needs of our clients have changed—especially those who have been with us for all 80+ years of our practice—our reliability has not changed.
It’s no wonder that, every year, scores of individuals and businesses throughout the Chicagoland area choose to move to KOS.
